This news really hit me hard as well. He was the adult of the world of television journalism. He neither threw softballs or spitballs. He made the political process better by politely exposing charlatans and giving genuine leaders the opportunity to make their case. The national safety net has a big hole in it tonight, and it really saddens me.

I'm not a fan of politics, but I was STILL almost knocked off my chair when I got up this morning and saw news of Tim's passing on my home page. What an incredible loss. I can't even imagine election night without him as he has always been such a fixture and great at explaining things to those of us not so in the know.

If Russert's sudden death teaches us anything it's that you can simply go at any time, and that you probably don't want the last words you utter (or write) to be anything hateful or nasty. I'm sorry for his family that he died, but if you had to pick a way to go, his way beats out a long, painful, lingering death. He was apparently right in the middle of doing exactly what he loved. You can't ask for much better than that.
