So my Tivo did something for me today that was sort of a mixed blessing. Somehow, it divined that I'd be interested in watching the VH1 Classics program about the making of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.

What it, and I, didn't count on, though, is how depressing it was to watch them intercut between pictures of familiar looking hippies making music in the 70's, with these old rich white guys who made the music 40 years ago. David Gilmore looks like a retired banker now.

Actually, in that picture, he sorta looks like Billy Bob Thornton in Sling Blade.

That said, while I lost interest in PF years ago, whenever I see them pop up on one of those live aid-like charity shows, Gilmore looks like he is having a genuine good time and still sounds fairly good.  He was always white, and I think they were all kinda fairly rich, at even though nobody has really paid much attention, at least they have tried to not live off the same four songs for the past 30 years (even if you can find The Division Bell in the dollar bin these days).

And, at least he didn't recruit Brian Adams to sing on The Wall like Waters did back in '89.  Yikes...
