I managed to get a Wii Fit when it first came out, weeks ago, and I've used it for a little while, and I have to say that it's pretty much a glorified bathroom scale with a television interface, and not a very accurate one at that. If you go into it expecting more than just a game, you're probably going to be frustrated and disappointed. And unless you're already pretty fit, the game is going to insult you right out of the box. The little animate Wii platform on the screen will grunt when you get on it. Then, when you enter your height, it will calculate your BMI, and turn your on screen Wii avatar into a fatty. It will also serve up a bunch of junk science -- stuff like "strong abdominal muscles help in proper digestion." I'm guessing something got lost in the translation. Despite all the hype over the Wii Fit, and people's inability to get their feet on one, it's just a toy, and their struggles to get one are probably going to lead to disappointment.

DSF: Thanks for you thoughts on the Wii Fit. I'm really disappointed to hear this. I had watched several demonstrations of it on YouTube and had high hopes.
I already have a dozen or more workout DVDs, so it's not something I need, but I had thought it might be my entre into the Wii, since I haven't taken the plunge yet.

What I'm really looking forward to are how other games will incorporate it...can't wait for the next Rayman Raving Rabbids game will use it. One frustration I have is with its determination of my center of balance. For me to stand so it's centered, I need to lean forward. Or perhaps I should wear heels. One issue may be that we're using it on carpeting, and, since I was worried that it wouldn't work on carpet, I'm generally happy with how it does. For an aerobic workout, I think there's too much pausing in between the "games" to sustain an elevated heartrate. I haven't used it much, but don't really see being able to skip my workout on the basis of using the Wii.
